The lost museum
Tinker designed a contemporary interpretation of a curiosities cabinet at the Mauritshuis, inspired by the Royal Cabinet of Rarities, which was housed on the ground floor of the Mauritshuis from 1822 to 1875. The spectacular collection – a compilation of antique objects, artworks, books, and manuscripts – was displayed in overcrowded rooms and provided a unique experience. This sense of wonder and curiosity lies at the heart of the new exhibition.
This collection is so large that it cannot be shown in its entirety. In order to be able to show part of the collection, Tinker devised a wallpaper for the exhibition space. For this wallpaper, I edited more than 500 photos of objects from the collection. I then used these objects in the design for this wallpaper.
